Introduction:

• Weather is one of the most unpredictable factors in aviation and constantly affects flight operations. Weather conditions such as thunderstorms, turbulence, sandstorms, dangerous crosswinds, heavy snow, hail, low-level wind shear, etc. pose a threat to the safety and performance of flight operations. IATA’s 2024 Safety Report revealed that despite the continued relatively low accident rate, weather continues to pose a significant threat to flight safety. Analysis shows that between 2015 and 2024, 44% of fatal aircraft accidents cited weather as a contributing factor, and 32% of all accidents. Weather also has a significant impact on air traffic management (ATM), fuel burn, and on-time performance. In the US, about 75% of delays are weather-related, costing billions of dollars per year.
• But is weather the “cost of doing business?” What can we do to better manage the effect of weather on our organisation’s operations? Where are the risks? What can we do to manage weather in a changing climate?

  How will I benefit:

  This course provides delegates with the knowledge and skills to determine how hazards and risks from adverse weather conditions impact flight operations, and methods to manage these risks. Using these data, this course will allow participants to identify methods to enhance safety and performance to reduce passenger and crew injuries, diversions and aircraft damage due to adverse weather. This course also examines the use of various weather and climate products and services to facilitate operational decision-making, flight planning, operational control, and air traffic services. Finally, this course examines how to apply practices, processes and procedures to manage weather-related risks effectively and proactively to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiencies.

Personnel who are required to use weather information to better manage climate change and weather-related risks to operational control, flight planning, or air traffic service. This course is also suitable for Safety Managers, CAA Inspectors, military flight operations personnel, aviation meteorologists, aviation insurance companies, and aircraft accident investigators.
