Course Contents:
This two-days course will cover the following:
- Brief introduction to aviation emergency response and the role of family assistance within this response
- Lessons learned from the humanitarian perspective of previous mass fatality incidents
- Psychological and cultural issues while dealing with survivors and families
- Understanding the need for a FAC
- Legislations and Family Assistance Acts
- Planning principles
- Activation and setting up of a FAC, including site assessment
- Services to be provided
- Family briefings and family interviews
- Role of other organisations
- Cultural and religious issues
- Handling of personal effects
- Self care
- Handling the media
- Financial aspects
- Closure and demobilization.
The training will be conducted as a mix of classroom lectures and interactive group discussions and will culminate in a table-top exercise. Video presentations followed by discussions and case studies form an important part of the course.
