How Will I Benefit?
At the end of this ‘Virtual Trainer’, participants will be able to:
- Identify what good looks like when it comes to engaging virtual learning
- Explore the different learning styles our groups may have, and look at ways we can adapt learning to meet these virtually
- Plan how to have successful learning interventions through the use of different technologies, considering the environment we’re in as well as what type of virtual initiative is the most suitable for that audience
- Explore how we should ‘show up’ and what we need to think about in terms of our own training style when facilitating virtually
- Create engaging virtual learning interventions, using different tools at our disposal
- Understand the different roles needed when delivering a virtual intervention, and how these roles work together
- Practice a piece of your own learning content for feedback (and sign off) to build upon the skills you have learnt from this workshop
Who Should Attend?
Virtual training program has been developed for participants that need to design and deliver any form of virtual learning event. They may already have experience of delivering classroom training and need to convert these skills to online sessions, or they may be new to the entire process and want to ensure they are performing effectively when delivering online training.
Course Contents:
Module 1:
Introduction to the Challenges/Opportunities of Online Learning:
- Addressing the challenges presented by culture, technology, distance, and time.
- Recognizing major distinctions between live, online training and face-to-face training in terms of design, development, and delivery.
- Acquiring verbal skills that can raise participant involvement.
Designing for Learner Engagement:
- Clarifying the performance gaps the training is expected to fill.
- Matching technology to performance objectives and teaching methods.
- Highlighting best practices for designing live online learning.
- Identifying key roles and functions of the designer, developer, facilitator and producer.
Module 2:
Developing for Learner Engagement:
- Recognizing the importance of our voice as facilitator and exploring the impact of pitch, pacing and volume
- Connecting the training evaluation to course objectives and participant evaluation methods
- Applying brain-based learning techniques to develop course materials
- Evaluating engagement tools (polling, chats, online breakout groups and more)
Preparing the Participants:
- Customizing pre-delivery checklists that address involvement, managing technology and the learning environment
